Voting Resources for Parents
As a parent, your voice matters.
Here are some resources you can use as you navigate this year’s election.
Register to vote and find out what is on your ballot, Vote 411. Type in your address and find what is on your ballot. Once in Explore Now and Go to My Races, you can click on each of the races to learn more about the candidates.
The Michigan’s Children website provides information and resources for you to use during the election. Michigan’s Children is the only statewide independent voice working to ensure that public policies are made in the best interest of children from cradle to career. Under the Policy Playbook tab, you will find areas where legislation can support children and families: Strong Families, Ready Learners, Thriving Students, and Successful Transitions. On the Engage 2020 page, there are sections where you can learn more to support thriving students, strong families and more. Michigan’s Children is continually updating their website and adding additional information. They have provided some suggested questions for candidates, specific to their Strong Families playbook section.
The League of Women Voters of Ann Arbor Area – Brighton/Howell Unit is rolling out a nonpartisan candidate forum series to help inform voters about local races. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic recommendations, forums were held virtually to ensure public safety. Our local league scheduled forums from Sept. 19-25. They were recorded and the videos will be posted as available on their YouTube Channel. Forums covered the following races:
- 42nd and 47th Districts of the Michigan House of Representatives
- Livingston County Board of Commissioners
- Livingston County Clerk
- Livingston County Prosecutor
- Livingston County Treasurer
- Livingston County Register of Deeds
- School Boards of: Howell, Brighton, Hartland and Fowlerville
