It is time for Summer Reading Programs and activities! Summer Reading Programs are easy, fun and for all ages. Below you will find ideas for getting your read on around Livingston County.
Don’t forget: we will be at 7 different parks across the county this summer for a playdates and we will have books available!
LIBRARIES
All of our county libraries have fun events planned this summer. The libraries provide free/low-cost activities for children and families. Summer Reading programs encourage children to read and help develop and maintain reading skills. They are also a lot of fun! Check out your local library or any of the Livingston County libraries for events, story times and more.
Howell Carnegie District Library
- Summer Reading Bingo, cards can be picked up starting June 1. Summer reading program runs June 1 – July 30.
- Summer reading kick-off: All Together Now, Saturday, June 3, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
- Summer reading kick-off: Camp Readwhatchawanna Friday, June 9, 7 p.m. Summer reading program runs June 9 – July 29.
- Summer reading kick-off party: Summerfest – All Together Now, Saturday, June 17, 1 – 3 p.m. Summer reading program runs June 17 through August 12.
- Summer Challenge, begins Monday, June 19, runs through August 19.
- Youth Summer Reading Program runs from June 12 through August 9.
BOOK BUSES
Each week The Highlander Reading Express will visit areas around Howell to promote summer reading.
Pinckney Community Schools Book Bus
Visit various locations in Pinckney this summer for the opportunity to pick out a new book, free of charge.
UNIQUE STORYTIMES
Family Storytime at 2 Dandelions (Brighton)
Visit 2 Dandelions for a weekly story time just for families. FREE to attend.
Healing Hearts With Horses (Fowlerville)
The Teach A Horse To Read program is for ages 5 and up and runs on Tuesday and Wednesdays. $10/child.
Visit the nature center for various nature-based story times this summer. See the event calendar to learn more. Cost varies.
Foxes Journey Sanctuary (Howell)
Check out the Smart As A Fox summer reading program to get the opportunity to read to foxes at the sanctuary. For ages 5 and up. $20/child.
The Ceramic Studio, Etc. (Howell)
Monthly story time and craft geared toward little ones, ages 3 and up. $15/child.
LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES
