Champions for Children: Nominate Someone Who Makes Livingston County Better for Kids

Do You Know a Champion for Children?

Do you know someone who is making our community a safer, stronger, and better place for children to grow and thrive?

The LACASA Center CAP (Child Abuse Prevention) Council and Great Start Livingston / Help Me Grow Livingston are now accepting nominations for the 2026 Champions for Children Awards.

Each April, during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, we recognize individuals and organizations whose positive impact is reflected in the lives of the children and families around them.

Because children thrive when communities show up for them.

Award Presentation

The people chosen as the 2026 Champions for Children will be recognized at the CAP Council’s annual Plant a Pinwheel Celebration on April 8 at the Howell Carnegie District Library.

This special event kicks off National Child Abuse Prevention Month and serves as a powerful reminder that prevention begins with community.

Who Can Be Nominated?

Champions can be anyone whose support for children and families is evident in:

  • The work they do professionally
  • The way they spend their extra time
  • The relationships they build with children and families

Past recipients have included educators, coaches, foster parents, childcare providers, public employees, and community volunteers.

More than one winner will be selected — because there are many ways to champion children in Livingston County.

What Does a Champion Look Like?

A Champion for Children might be someone who:

  • Encourages families to complete developmental screenings
  • Supports early literacy efforts and distributes books
  • Hosts parent education opportunities
  • Advocates for child safety and prevention
  • Builds trusted relationships with families
  • Connects parents to resources when they don’t know where to turn

At Help Me Grow, we often say, “When you don’t know, call Help Me Grow.”

Champions are often the reason families know that help exists — and feel safe asking for it.
