Champion for Children

  • Open – Champion for Children Nominations. LACASA Center’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council and Great Start Livingston are asking residents to help identify the 2022 Champion for Children. The nomination period for the award is now open to the public through March 20th. Nominees may be a person whose support for children and families is evident in the work they do or in the way they spend their time. This includes people who act as mentors, foster parents, or advocates for vulnerable kids. Past recipients have also included educators, coaches, public employees, and community volunteers. To nominate a Champion for Children, submit this nomination form to the CAP Council at capcouncil@lacasacenter.org, or call (517) 548-1350 for more information.
  • Reviewers Needed – Please consider being a reviewer for the Champion for Children Award. Online Parenting Workshops: The MSU Extension is offering online parenting workshops for parents and caregivers.  This week’s session on Tuesday, March 1, 8 – 9:30 p.m. is Positive Discipline. Learn about techniques that focus on positive discipline that can help you create an environment that is safe, fun and focuses on learning while helping children develop self-control and minimizing behavior problems. Find this event and more online resources here: MSU Extension Parenting Education. Powdered Infant Formula Recall. U.S. Food and Drug Administration FDA Warns Consumers Not to Use Certain Powdered Infant Formula Produced in Abbott Nutrition’s Facility in Sturgis, Michigan. Read More. If you are a WIC family, do NOT throw away cans of recalled formula. Clients may return the recalled formula, used or unused, to any retail store, regardless of where the formula was purchased. Clients who are unable to visit a store may request a refund by visiting Similacrecall.com. WIC is also communicating extensively with vendors statewide to ensure efficient formula returns, exchanges and refunds. Alternate formula options have been temporarily added to the list of WIC-approved products for clients who have unredeemed formula benefits on their WIC EBT Card.
