We’ve Distributed More Than 1,500 Books In 2025!

At Great Start Livingston, we believe every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading. So far this year, we’ve distributed more than 1,500 books to young children across Livingston County, and we’re just getting started!

That’s 1,500+ moments of imagination sparked, bedtime stories shared, giggles heard, and vocabulary grown. Research tells us that early exposure to books lays the foundation for strong literacy skills and school readiness. But more than that, books help build connection between parents and children, stories and emotions, and little learners and the big world around them.

💛 Why it matters:
Reading together strengthens parent-child bonds, reduces stress, and supports brain development. It’s one of the simplest and most powerful ways to invest in a child’s future.

📚 How we do it:
Thanks to generous support from local organizations and passionate volunteers, we’ve been able to stock Welcome Baby Bags, share books at community events, and partner with schools, libraries, and early childhood programs to make sure books are reaching the children who need them most.

🗣️ Words Matter. Talk. Read. Sing.®
As our friends at Talking is Teaching remind us, “You already have what it takes to be your child’s first teacher.” Simple moments, like reading aloud, naming objects, or talking about your day, help build your child’s brain. Giving families books is just the beginning. We also share tools and encouragement to make those reading moments part of a daily rhythm that supports learning and connection.

Thank you, partners!
We couldn’t do this without you. Your donations, time, and energy help us reach more families—and more little hands ready to turn the page.

Let’s keep building a community where every child has a bookshelf of possibilities.
