Foster Closet of Michigan- Livingston County Kid’s Closet expands to serve all children.
The Foster Closet of Michigan- Livingston County Kid’s Closet, now known to the general public as “Livingston County Kid’s Closet”, is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) that provides services, supplies, support, and aid to children in need in Livingston County. We provide clothing, underclothing, toys, shoes, baby equipment and gear, hygiene products, furniture, and more. These items are gently used or new items that have been donated to us from the community. Essentially, we are community helping community.
The Closet opened in late 2018, aiming to serve Livingston County and surrounding foster children. Often, children are placed into foster care with no personal items, and, in many cases, they come into care with only the clothes on their back. The Closet provides these kids with clothes and personal items that they can call their own.
By the end of 2019, The Closet saw the need and ability to not just serve the foster community, but the whole community. There are a lot of barriers out there for parents and guardians, we aim to reduce at least one. We believe that no parent should have to worry about clothing their child. We provide the basics so parents and guardians can focus on bigger things. We want to be a resource to aid in the preservation of the family unit.
The Closet has helped hundreds of children over the course of their short time being open. Families can access the Closet four times a year. If there is an emergency or extenuating circumstance, there are always exceptions that can made. We are also available to assist families who may have been affected by house fires or other disasters. We are excited to make our presence known in Livingston County as a resource for these families. We look forward to assisting other local organizations, as well as schools, with children that might need our services.
