Get Ahead of Lead

Updates on Michigan’s efforts to lead the nation in preventing lead exposure.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has announced the Get Ahead of Lead statewide strategy to identify and take steps to prevent lead exposure from household plumbing. Get Ahead of Lead includes:

  • an educational campaign about sources of lead in household plumbing and filter recommendations,
  • filter safety net assistance for households that may need support to implement this recommendation in communities with a high risk of lead exposure; and
  • filters for foster care families regardless of water source.

For more information about this strategy, you can review the MDHHS Press Release and visit the https://www.michigan.gov/mileadsafe/get-ahead-of-lead website for more details. If you have any questions about what this means for your community or you would like to discuss opportunities to promote lead education within your community, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
