InfantSEE: FREE Eye Exams for Infants in Livingston County
Have you had your baby’s eyes checked? The American Optometric Association recommends scheduling an infant’s first eye exam at 6 months of age. Help protect your infant’s eye with a no-cost vision assessment with the InfantSEE program.
InfantSEE, a public health program, is designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an essential part of infant wellness care to improve a child’s quality of life.
Infants should receive a comprehensive baseline eye exam between the ages of 6 and 12 months, immediately after the critical period when the eye undergoes rapid changes and is therefore most vulnerable to interference with normal development.
A comprehensive eye assessment provides an evaluation of the structure, function, and health of your baby’s eyes and visual system to ensure they have the highest quality of sight and will be able to reach their greatest learning potential.
Early intervention is critical for successful treatment. It is estimated that one in five preschoolers has vision problems that can interfere with learning and behavior, yet during the course of their young lives, many children never see an eye care practitioner who can provide the kind of professional eye assessment necessary to correct those problems.
An infant exam is quick and painless. Livingston County has several providers who participate in the InfantSEE program. Call to schedule an appointment with one of the following local providers:
