Come Play, Explore & Discover!

Your child can move from station to station exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math—all through play.

There is no class to follow and no right way to explore. Children can spend a few minutes at one activity, stay longer at a favorite, watch for a while before joining in, or move on when they’re ready.

Families can expect hands-on S.T.E.A.M. activities, sensory and creative exploration, opportunities for movement, community partners ready to play and explore alongside children, and lots of chances to wonder, build, create and discover together.

What Does S.T.E.A.M. Look Like When You’re 2?

It looks a lot like PLAY!

For young children, S.T.E.A.M. doesn’t need to mean complicated experiments, worksheets or sitting still for a lesson.

It might look like:

🔬 Science — observing, experimenting, exploring nature, mixing colors and wondering what will happen next.

⚙️ Technology — using tools, exploring cause and effect and discovering how things work.

🏗️ Engineering — building, stacking, making ramps, designing, testing and trying again.

🎨 Art — creating, painting, exploring textures, mixing colors, moving and designing.

🔢 Math — counting, sorting, matching, making patterns, comparing sizes, measuring and exploring shapes.

And many activities are more than one thing at the same time. Building a block tower can involve engineering, math, problem-solving and creativity—all while your child thinks they’re simply having fun.

Play is how young children investigate the world.

Yes, Babies Are Little Explorers Too!

Have a baby? Please bring them!

S.T.E.A.M. begins long before children can build a bridge or count to ten. Babies are constantly experimenting with their world—reaching, grasping, watching, listening, dropping, touching, moving and discovering cause and effect.

We’ll have experiences that even our youngest little explorers can enjoy with their grown-ups.

Grown-Ups Get to Explore Too

One of the best parts of S.T.E.A.M. play is that you don’t need to know all the answers.

Instead of showing your child the “right” way to do an activity, try wondering alongside them:

“What do you notice?”

“What do you think will happen?”

“What could we try?”

“Why do you think that happened?”

“What should we try next?”

You don’t need to turn play into a lesson. Follow your child’s lead, talk about what they’re doing and be curious together.

Designed for Little Learners & Their Families

Little Explorers’ S.T.E.A.M. Night is designed for families with children ages birth through 5. Activities will offer different ways to participate because little learners don’t all play, move, communicate or explore in the same way.

The event is fully accessible, and children should remain with their parent, caregiver or responsible adult throughout the evening.

There is no expectation that your child complete every station—or even participate in every activity. If your child wants to watch first, that’s okay. If they find one activity they love and want to stay there, that’s okay too.

Follow their curiosity.
