Free Maternal Warning Signs Training Coming to Washtenaw County

Pregnancy and the postpartum period are important times for families—and knowing when something may be wrong can make a critical difference.

The Region 9 Perinatal Quality Collaborative is bringing Bridging the Gap in Postpartum Care: Critical Warning Signs to Washtenaw County on Monday, September 14, 2026.

This free training is designed for professionals and community members who interact with pregnant and postpartum families. Participants will learn how to recognize urgent maternal warning signs, understand when someone may need medical attention, and build confidence connecting families to the right care at the right time.

What Will Participants Learn?

Participants will have an opportunity to:

• Recognize urgent maternal warning signs across pregnancy and postpartum.
• Practice how to respond in real-life home and community settings.
• Build confidence in escalation, documentation, and advocacy.
• Understand their role in reducing maternal morbidity and mortality.

Who Should Attend?

This training is especially relevant for home visitors, community health workers, family support workers, nurses, doulas, Early On professionals, lactation professionals, social service professionals, and other community members who interact with new and expecting parents.

The training is intended for individuals who support Washtenaw County families.

Two-Part Training

The training includes both a short virtual learning component and an interactive in-person session.

Part 1: Online Learning

Registered participants will receive five short videos, approximately 3–6 minutes each, to watch before the in-person training. Participants will also be asked to complete a pre-training survey.

These materials will be emailed automatically from Region 9 after registration, so no additional action is needed to receive them.

Part 2: In-Person Training

Participants will come together at the Ann Arbor Regent Hotel Conference Center for lunch, networking, discussion, skill-building, and opportunities to apply what they learned in realistic situations.
