Reasons To Visit Our Livingston County Libraries This Holiday Season

The libraries in Livingston County are special places for families to gather. There is no shortage of FREE fun to be found there, either, from special events to weekly story times.

A few of our libraries chimed in to share some great things they are offering this holiday season below:

BRIGHTON DISTRICT LIBRARY

1. What are a few examples of resources families with children can check out over holiday break at your library?

In addition to books (of course!), we offer DVDs, Playaways, Launchpads,STEAM-to-Go Kits, and much more! We also have a Library of Things that includes games and puzzles for family fun!

2. What is a book (or two) you’d recommend every family reads together during the holiday season? 

I’d recommend that every family READS together during the holiday season. Make it a family tradition! Come to the Library and a Librarian will give you personal recommendations for something YOUR family will love!

3. What is the best way to learn about upcoming events at the library?

4. Do you offer curbside currently? Feel free to list any other accommodations you have going on to ensure access to busy families.

4.  We do offer curbside! We also offer lots of options for downloading and streaming e-books, e-audiobooks, movies, comics, magazines, and more!

HARTLAND’S CROMAINE LIBRARY

1. What are a few examples of resources families with children can check out over holiday break at your library?

We have fun programming happening during the break, as well as passive activities to do inside at the library no matter what time folks come to visit. And if you’re a Hartland School District Resident, you have access to our SportPort collection — which includes skis for littles, sleds, and other fun winter activities!

We don’t offer curbside, but our hold shelf is just inside the building, so you can come in and grab them quickly and head out the door!

HOWELL CARNEGIE DISTRICT LIBRARY

1. What are a few examples of resources families with children can check out over holiday break at your library?

Resources that we think are great for families over holiday break:

a. Boredom Buster Books – books on how to play different card games, how to create origami, make paper airplanes, how to do magic tricks, kitchen science experiments & more!

b. Hands-on “stuff” – STEM kitsEarly Literacy Kitsgames and puzzles; Parents/adult caregivers can check out a telescope, sewing machine, fun cake pans, and more from our Library of Things collection.

c. Cookbooks – cookbooks provide an opportunity for families to work together to select a new recipe, plan and grocery shop for ingredients, measure and work together in the kitchen

d. Books to read for pleasure – whether it’s a family read-aloud, a board book, a talking book, or playaway – there are lots of great books to read for pleasure that you can find in the library!

2. What is a book (or two) you’d recommend every family reads together during the holiday season?

3. What is the best way to learn about upcoming events at the library?

Our full events calendar is the best spot – then you can change the view and/or narrow your calendar search by Kids/Families, Early Literacy Classes, etc. Here are just our holiday break events.

4. Do you offer curbside currently?

Yes, we have a wonderful curbside pick-up service. Just drive up to the back door during our regular hours to pick up your curbside holds when they’re ready.

PINCKNEY COMMUNITY LIBRARY

1. What are a few examples of resources families with children can check out over holiday break at your library?

Vox Books : audio picture books, no need for cd player or even headphones, these picture books have rechargeable readers attached to them. 

Youth Sporting Equipment from our Sport Port collection includes fun snow fort building supplies as well as youth snowshoes and youth snowboards or even bird watching equipment. You can check out with your library card.

Visit the Youth and Teen Events section on our website.

We do offer curbside. We stay open until 8 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday and we are open Saturdays 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. We have lots of fun activities in the youth area for fun playdates.
