Special Delivery Program: Supporting Healthy Pregnancies for WIC Moms with Food Delivery

Are you pregnant, registered for WIC, and interested in helping researchers learn more about supporting moms-to-be? The University of Michigan is inviting first-time mothers to join the Special Delivery Program, a research study designed to help new moms maintain a healthy diet during pregnancy.

This study is working to help make it easier for first-time young moms to eat healthy during their pregnancy. This study is a randomized trial and everything is done from home and mostly over text.

Eligible participants will be randomized to one of three groups:

  • Group 1 will receive access to grocery delivery after delivering their baby
  • Group 2 will receive twice monthly food deliveries during pregnancy
  • Group 3 will receive twice monthly food and unsweetened beverage delivery during pregnancy

All participants will receive $20 for completing the enrollment and baseline survey, $20 each for 5 additional dietary surveys, $1 per week for sharing your weight, and $10 for completing our final interview during this study.

Who Can Join?

You may be eligible if you are:

  • Between the ages of 14–26
  • A first-time mom
  • 20 weeks pregnant or less
  • Currently receiving WIC benefits
  • Able to send and receive text messages
  • Able to communicate in English

Why Join?

Participants in the study will not only contribute to important research that can benefit mothers and babies in the future, but will also receive compensation for their time—up to $160.

How It Works

The program uses text messages and communication to share strategies and support for building healthy eating habits during pregnancy. By joining, you’ll play an important role in shaping resources that could help moms everywhere.
