Building Parent Leadership Skills in Early Childhood with Michigan Alliance for Families
Parents of young children with disabilities are at the start of their journey with supports, services, and special education for their child.
Parent voices are needed on local, county, and state boards that support children with disabilities and their families.
Michigan Alliance for Families has an opportunity for parents of young children to understand and develop their leadership skills. This four-part series will help parents understand their role as leaders and learn about opportunities to share their experience and knowledge.
This four-part series will help parents better understand the important role they can play in leadership positions at the local, county and state levels.
During the workshops, participants will:
- Learn more about their personal leadership style
- Discuss the importance of inclusion in early childhood
- Explore leadership opportunities on local, county and state boards
- Learn how to use their voice, knowledge and experiences to help support families of children with disabilities
The series takes place online from 12–1 p.m. on Wednesdays:

Because this is a four-part series, participants should be able to attend all four sessions.
Who Should Attend?
The series is intended for parents of children birth to age 8 who:
- Receive or have received Early On services
- Currently serve as a Local Interagency Coordinating Council (LICC) representative
- Are interested in serving on local, county or state boards
