Show your support for Child Abuse Prevention Month in Livingston County this April by displaying pinwheel gardens and awareness signs at your home, business or organization.
Pinwheel kits are available for a suggested donation starting March 23 at LACASA’s charity resale boutique, the LACASA Collection in Howell. Proceeds benefit our Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council.
The LACASA Collection is open Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Learn more at lacasacollection.org.
April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month
LACASA Center’s Child Abuse Prevention (CAP) Council joins child abuse and neglect organizations across Michigan and around the country each April to commemorate National Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Prevent Child Abuse America (PCAA) chose the blue pinwheel, an uplifting reminder of the happy and safe childhood that every child deserves, as the national symbol for child abuse and neglect prevention.
CAP’s Plant a Pinwheel Campaign includes community events, county-wide pinwheel gardens and displays, social media outreach, and fundraising efforts to support child abuse and neglect prevention programming.
Most years the community gathers at the Howell Carnegie District Library for the Plant a Pinwheel Celebration to kick-off the campaign. This celebration includes a presentation on child abuse prevention, a local children’s choir, and the presentation of CAP’s annual Champion for Children award.
The event culminates with children and adults planting a Pinwheel Garden along the library’s front entrance. Other pinwheel gardens are planted throughout the community as a visual reminder of how every member of the Livingston County community plays a role in protecting children.
