Backpacks for Kids: Supporting a Strong Start to the School Year

The Livingston Educational Service Agency (LESA) is proud to host the 24th Annual Backpacks for Kids event to help local students start the school year prepared and confident.

Each year, this countywide initiative supports families experiencing financial hardship by providing free backpacks filled with essential school supplies. With the cost of back-to-school items rising, this event eases the burden on parents and helps ensure that every child has what they need to succeed.

Here’s How You Can Help

There are several ways to contribute to this important community effort:

🛍 Donate Supplies or a Backpack

Pick up extra school supplies while you shop and drop them off at the Livingston ESA Education Center (1425 W. Grand River Ave, Howell) between 8:00 AM–4:00 PM, Monday–Thursday. You can also donate items at authorized businesses across Livingston County.

Why It Matters

There are nearly 12,000 children under age 6 in Livingston County, with over 15% living in or near poverty. This event helps level the playing field, ensuring all kids have the tools they need to thrive in school.
